Obama accussed of not removing illegal workers

Republicans say that although businesses are being investigated, illegal workers are not being removed.
Barack Obama’s administration has been accused of relaxing the enforcement of US immigration laws for illegal workers.
Speaking at a Capitol Hill forum, Republican Lamar Smith, claimed that data he had seen showed arrests and convictions of workplace violations had fallen by over 50% from the year 2008 to 2009.
Smith was referring to data from the Department of Homeland Security (DNS), the data showed that during Obama’s first year in office although worksite enforcement had dropped, figures for the number of record audits had increased.
This came on the same day that the Homeland Security Secretary, Janet Napolitano and US Immigration Assistant Secretary, John Morton, made announcements that they plan to clampdown on employers that hire illegal immigrants.
Discussing the data, smith said;
“There are 16 million Americans out of work. And yet the administration has chosen to ignore the fact that there are nearly 8 million illegal immigrants in the workforce." and continued that "Those stolen jobs should be returned to out-of-work citizens and legal immigrants,”
