Obama says US immigration system is broken

Speaking at an evening press conference to mark his 100th day in office, President Barack Obama spoke of his intention to introduce US immigration reform to help the millions of unregistered immigrants the in the country.

Obama said that the US can not continue with its “broken” immigration system, which is not good for anybody. He says he fully intends to make serious headway into introducing the reform in his first year in power but says he must convince Americans that the country’s borders are secure to ensure people are behind the reform.

He added that his agenda is increasingly stretched but that he wants to begin to work with legislators to decide what legislation can be introduced. He also added that his administration is already taking steps to deal with US immigration issues.

However, due to his schedule, which now includes a potential world-wide pandemic of a deadly influenza virus, reform may not come as soon as some had hoped. Obama stated, “We want to move this process…I'm going to be moving it as quickly as I can — I've been accused of doing too much.”
