Despite the global economic downturn, many of the most appealing regions of Australia still have skills shortages. Applicants for Australian work visas who possess required skills will be given priority when applying to move to Australia.

It can be advantageous to consider moving to less obvious regions of Australia to find the best employment opportunities.

Regional Victoria is a great option for those looking to find work in Australia. Victoria has many fantastic cities and is roughly the size of Britain. The city of Geelong is the second largest in the region and has a population of 137,220. It is just a 40-minute drive from Melbourne and has great employment opportunities in medical professions including nursing, health information management and radiography. Theatre technicians, dentists, GP, bio-medical engineers and occupational therapists are also in demand.

Another fantastic Victoria city, Ballarat, the largest in the region, is in desperate need for skilled migrants to fill vacancies as accountants, computer programmers, urban planners, engineers and allied medical professionals.

Wheatbelt, another large city of some 155 km sq, needs diesel mechanics, nurses, accountants and heavy machinery mechanics.

These cities offer a wealth of opportunities for Australian visa holders and provide first rate educations, outdoor leisure, medical and community services, which help newcomers to settle and work in Australia.
