Phil Down Under TV series to help people moving to Australia
January 19 2010 by Liam Clifford
Phil dumps Kirsty and heads down under all on his lonesome for some moving to Australia shenanigans.
Starting this coming Friday, at 8pm on Channel 4, is the
new show from Location, Location, Location’s Phil Spencer – Phil Down Under. The
programme is intended to help those thinking of making a move to Australia with
the daunting task of finding a house to buy.
It seems the show could not
have come at a better time. We’re in the depths of one of the coldest winters in
living history and are still deep in recession while other countries, including
Australia, look well on the way to regaining economic strength.
It is
little surprise then that 40,000 Brits make the move to Australia each year.
Most are tempted by the low cost of living, great climate and strong job
prospects.
Phil Spencer says the show is about helping people sort the
practical elements of starting a new life Down Under. He explains, ”there is an
element of showcasing Australia, of course there is - the lifestyle on offer,
the jobs you can have and the properties. It certainly goes out at a time in
this country where we're feeling a bit dark and miserable, and they're bright
and warm and happy and cheap over there."
Spencer says Brits are likely
to to be able to afford a larger property if they move and will enjoy a better
lifestyle. He adds, “I think on the whole, people will move for bigger and
cheaper houses. The Australians just have a stronger sense of balance between
work, life and family time.”
