Canada has extended the period during which its Prague embassy will accept Canadian visa applications from Czech citizens.
Originally, Czech citizens were to be to apply for visas for Canada through the drop-box of Prague's Canadian embassy until mid-August, but this has now been extended until November 13th.
Usual practice is for Czech citizens to apply for their Canada work permits and visas personally at the Canadian embassy in neighbouring Vienna. However, applicants who did not require their visa for Canada urgently are currently able to post their applications at the Canadian embassy in Prague.
The requirement for Czech citizens to obtain visas for Canada was imposed in July this year. The move stimulated controversy and the Czech government is pressing Canadian officials to reconsider the move. The Czech government is also seeking the support of the EU for its campaign to remove the requirement for its citizens to obtain visas to visit Canada.
Since the beginning of July, Canada has received 2581 visa applications from Czech citizens, of which 99.4% have been approved.
