The mother of a Sunrise Propane worker who was killed last year in the explosion in Toronto has been refused a Canada visa on the anniversary of her son's death.

Parminder Singh Saini and Firefighter Bob Leek were killed by in Toronto in August 2008 by a huge propane gas explosion, which caused 13,000 people to be evacuated.  Leek came to battle the blaze on his day off, but his bravery cost him his life.

Immediately after the event, the mother of 25-year old Saini made a visa application to allow her to visit the place her son died, but she was denied the visa to move to Canada until a massive public outcry swayed the case.

This year she is again facing the same trouble and has been denied a visa by Canadian immigration officials in order to visit where her son died, one year on from the event.

Vikramjit Singh Saini spoke about the death of his brother.

He said:  "My mother cries at home every night.  She wants to come and pray for my brother, but she was turned down.”

The local Canadian community are planning on renaming the park after Leek and Saini.

The area councillor said:  "There are a number of things being looked at.  In the end, the community will choose a memorial they are happy with.”
