Recovering alcoholic kicked out as he had failed the 'Australian immigration character test.'

A Scottish man who had spent 30 years in Australia, but was kicked out of the country earlier this year, was found dead two days after arriving back in the UK.

Andrew Derek Moore was deported after he was judged to have failed the Australian immigration screening due to a number of previous convictions.

Mr Moore landed in London with only £500, his medication and a hotel-booking made by Australian immigration authorities.

A recovering alcoholic, Mr Moore, 43, was deported after a 10-year term in prison and immigration detention centres and despite serious medical problems.

A spokesperson for Australia immigration said Mr Moore was assessed by a Doctor as fit to fly and was supplied with the medication he needed. He had been due to attend a clinical appointment on October 26; this transpired as the day his family reported to authorities he had been found dead.
