Simplified US visa application system for Nigeria
February 19 2010 by Liam Clifford
Although the system does not apply to people wishing to move to the US, many Nigerians hoping for a short-term US visa will benefit from the changes.
Richard Walsh, the Consular Coordinator for the US Mission in
Nigeria announced the changes yesterday in Lagos. From 1 March, applicants for a non-immigration US visa should apply online, by filling out the new QS-160
form.
This interactive online form replaces the paper forms previously
needed from visa applicants. Each applicant must print a confirmation sheet and
bring it to their interview with US immigration officials. Walsh explained that
accuracy is key to a quick and simple application process: "incorrect or missing
information will cause delay in completing your interview," he said.
He
added, "applicants should save an electronic copy of their DS-160 application in
case changes are necessary."
Ian Hillman, the US Consulate General in
Nigeria, said there are now six simple steps to the application process. He says
the new online system reduces the need for paperwork, speeds up the process and
allows more US visa applications to be passed through the system.
