Snoop Dogg wins UK visa through tribunal ruling

March 08 2010 by Liam Clifford

UK immigration judges have ruled that US rapper Snoop Dogg should not have been denied a UK visa in 2007. The ruling brings Snoop Dogg, real name Cordozar Calvin Broadus Jr, one step closer to securing a UK visa in the future.

The rapper, aged 38, was involved in an altercation with police at Heathrow Airport in April 2006, when members of his entourage were denied access to a first class lounge. His application for a UK visa in March 2007 was rejected on this basis. Even though the ruling was overturned in 2008, the UK Border Agency continued to contest the case, saying that the rapper could constitute "a risk to the public". The rapper has been battling the UK border authorities to secure a UK work visa ever since.

After the UK Border Agency challenged the ruling, the case went to an Asylum and Immigration Tribunal, whose judges ruled in Snoop Dogg’s favour last week. The decision means the rapper can now apply for a UK visa.

A Uk immigration spokesperson said he was, "disappointed by the tribunal's decision in this case", adding: “We are studying the determination carefully and will take a decision whether to appeal."
