Nenad Milijas sweated on his UK visa
Nenad Milijas, the most recent signing by Wolverhampton Wanderers, has been granted his UK visa after a nail-biting two weeks of uncertainty.
The player was signed a fortnight ago and since then, fans and the team’s management have been waiting to hear whether Milijas would be granted a UK work visa to play in the UK.
According to new UK immigration rules, in order to be granted a UK work visa, players have to have played in 75% of their country’s national games, which Milijas had not done.
As a result, Milijas was not granted an automatic UK work visa, and Wolves subsequently appealed the decision. The appeal presented to the FA included contributions from the Serbian national coach, Raddy Antic, along with a whole set of evidence.
The FA decided that the UK work visa should be granted after all and Milijas can now join the rest of the squad in their pre-seasons games in Australia.
The player was said to be thrilled at the news that he had won the visa dispute and was also able to work in Australia for a period before moving to the UK for the start of the season.
