Soldier fights for UK visas for Canadian wife and child
February 03 2010 by Liam Clifford
A former soldier, with experience in Iraq and Afghanistan, now has a new fight on his hands – attempting to get UK visas for his Canadian wife and child.
Darren Jarrad recently had to start over with his UK visa
applications for his wife Chantel and daughter Shyanne, after the initial
application was denied and the appeals turned down. The cost of the new
application was £600.
The couple met in 2006 while Jarrad was training in
Canada. They had their daughter in 2007 and the couple married in April last
year, after which they began the process of applying for Chantel and Shyanne to
move to the UK.
However, the last application was turned down after a
two-and-a-half month delay. Jarrad and his family have now been assured, by
Norfolk MP Norman Lamb, that their application will be speeded through the
process this time. Lamb stated, “I want it sorted straight away. I don't think
there is any need for any delay. There is an overwhelming case for reuniting
this family - it would be outrageous if it took more than a month.”
The
application was initially refused as UK immigration thought Chantel would be
reliant on benefits. This time, she has a job offer from a care home which
should prevent the same problem occurring again.
