The South African High Commission in India is considering outsourcing visa facilities for the World Cup 2010.

A number of Visa Facilitation Service (VFS) companies are being considered by the Commission to help ease the burden of the raft of South African visa applications expected to be made in advance of the event.

Currently, South African visa applications can be accepted at the Mumbai and new Delhi High Commission offices. Outsourcing to other VFS companies will mean that applications to travel to South Africa will be accepted at several additional offices throughout India.

As a result of opening several more offices for visa application processing, the High Commission says it will be able to speed up processing times and handle more applications at once.

The first secretary of Immigration and Civic Affairs, Themna P Mgabe, says that the decision to look into outsourcing was made in light of the problems caused by the influx of South Africa visa applications during the Indian Premier League.

He says that the Commission hopes more people from India will visit South Africa during the World Cup if they can speed up the application processing times.
