Engelbrecht: South Africa visas available

South Africa is suffering from a shortage of more experienced directors to head up its major companies, according to experts.

The Institute of Directors’ chief, Lindie Engelbrecht, says that many company directors in the country have ‘burned out’ and are retiring early. As a result of this, experienced directors looking to move to South Africa to start a new life in this beautiful country, are likely to find many opportunities to make their mark in the very top positions in South Africa’s business world.

According to Engelbrecht many of the directors currently at work in South Africa have a shortage of experience on boards and, therefore, are unable to deal with some of the more demanding aspects of the job.

The Institute is advocating the introduction of a new ‘understudy’ programme which will see more chief executive officers employing assistants who will be given the opportunity to learn vital skills that will eventually equip them to fill their boss’s shoes when the time comes.

Highly paid professionals from the UK are increasingly looking to move abroad to experience a better quality of life and escape the UK government’s new higher tax rate for top earners.

A South African work visa has long been an attractive option for such professionals and the news of the company director shortage should act as a further advantage to choosing this sunny country.
