Special Canadian immigration ceremony celebrates citizenship

A special citizenship ceremony took place in Canada earlier this week, attended by Canadian immigration and governmental officials.

Royal Galipeau, a Member of Parliament for Ottawa-Orléans attended the ceremony on behalf of Canadian immigration minister Jason Kenney. Also attending the event was former minister of employment and immigration, Flora MacDonald.

At the ceremony, 51 people from overseas who are living in Canada, took the oath of citizenship. The ceremony also involved the awarding of 72 reaffirmation certificates to members of the Canadian 4-H Council.

The ceremony was part of the 4-H Council’s annual “Adventures in Citizenship” seminar, which promoted the rights and responsibilities involved with becoming a Canadian citizens.

“Each year, approximately 170,000 people from around the world become new Canadian citizens,” stated MP Galipeau. The minister added“every time Canada welcomes a new citizen, another page of our country’s story is written.”

Canada prides itself on welcoming new citizens, who help to build the country into a more economically powerful and competitive nation. The Canadian immigration department has launched numerous successful programmes to help immigrants settling in Canada to ingrate into their communities and find jobs and homes that suit them.
