Start-up US visa will benefit economy says immigration lawyer
March 10 2010 by Liam Clifford
A US immigration lawyer in Florida has been speaking out in favour of the proposed StartUp visa, which would allow certain entrepreneurs to gain US visas if they can attract US investors to their project.
The US visa would be available to
entrepreneurs who gain support of qualified US investors, and according to
advocates, the scheme will help to create a large number of high-skills,
high-wage jobs. The Visa StartUp Act would grant a two year US visa to a foreign
entrepreneur who can prove that a qualified US investor will invest at least
$100,000 into their venture. In total, the business needs to have at least
$250,000 invested in it.
A Southwest Florida immigration attorney Norma
Henning says that such a scheme will help pull the nation’s economy further out
of recession. She explained what makes the scheme unique: "this new act is
geared toward the high-tech industries. What makes this different from (the EB-5
visa) is that it requires the business concept to be so good and viable that an
American - an angel investor or a venture capitalist - would want to put money
into it.”
