UK Aim to Attract Indian Students via New Visa Rules
June 20 2008 by Liam Clifford
The United States has become the destination of choice for Indians wanting to study abroad. The United Kingdom government wants to compete by attracting these talented students through an extended UK visa under new visa rules.
Britain, once extremely popular with Indian students has been taken over by what America has to offer. The current 18 000 Indians that study in the UK is just a quarter compared to that of the US.
However these students will now be allowed to stay in the UK for one or two years longer in order to gain work experience. This is according to today's announcement by Liam Byrne, immigration minister.
"Indians are known to have some of the worlds brightest and most talented, particularly when it comes to technological fields. Therefore this initiative ultimately reflects the UK's need for such students," explains Gabrielle Angear of www.globalvisas.com.
These changes come after Prime Minister Gordon Brown's recent visit to India where he explained the need for educational collaboration between the two nations. This is seen to essentially contribute to business and financial links between the countries.
Details of this extended UK immigration plan where have not yet been divulged.
