Recruitment professionals have announced that over 150,000 jobs are available for people applying to come and work in the UK, despite the recession.

Professionals working in industries like IT, science, telecommunications, healthcare and general care are still in demand in the UK, according to recruitment firms.

Jobs in professions like engineering, marketing and IT are all listed under the “highly skilled migrants programme,” explains recruitment specialist Emmanuel Geslani from the Federated Association of Manpower Exporters.

He adds, “The UK immigration points-based scheme allows all qualified applicants to enter the UK under a managed immigration program with a five Tier system for all overseas nationals seeking to enter or remain in that country.”

Geslani says that immigrants who move to the UK under certain categories of Tier 1 of the points-based system have access to work in the UK, start their own company, invest or work as a self-employed person.

Those coming to live in the UK through Tier 2 of the points-based system must have a job offer before they can enter the country.

Students studying to work in industries that are suffering from skills shortages, such as pharmaceuticals, dentistry and general healthcare can apply to live in the UK on a student visa.

Students may then apply for post-study work in the UK after obtaining a recognised UK university degree.
