Councillor is defiant about his extended holiday to Australia.
A London councillor says he will remain living in Australia and will continue to take £800 a month in taxpayers’ money. Saying he has not emigrated to Australia and nor does he have the appropriate permissions to by Australian immigration.
Christopher Harris, a Tory councillor for Golders Green in North London, moved to Australia for an extended holiday in July this year. Meanwhile, he has continued to collect £800 a month in expenses. He also called his councillor salary 'piffling'.
Needless to say his Tory bosses from the constituency are none-too-pleased and have wiped Harris of his Tory allegiance. Mike Freer, the Conservative leader for Barnet, announced, “he is no longer a Conservative councillor. This was the strongest response available to me.”
Despite calls for him to repay the government money he has taken during his 'emigration to Australia,' Hudson is remaining defiant on his decision to live in Australia for a period of time. He told a local newspaper, “I am still answering emails - if people want me I can still help them. I don't feel there is any problem. I don't see why I am not allowed to have an extended holiday.” Australian immigration confirmed there was no long-term visa application in his name.
Hudson went on to explain that he and his family are considering emigrating to Australia and making it a permanent move.
