More Brits apply for Canada visa
A recent report in the UK's Guardian newspaper claims that more and more Britons are applying for Canadian visas and Australian visas as the recession continues to make life harder in the UK.
The number of Britons who have been made permanent residents of Canada has increased in the past few years from 5,199 in 2003 to 8,128 in 2007.
This interest in the country has been boosted by the fact that the International Monetary Fund has identified Canada’s economy as one that it likely to recover quicker and stronger than others as its technology sector continues to grow.
‘New immigrants’ are classed as those who are moving to escape the poor economic conditions at home. Traditionally Britons have moved abroad during good times, while there seems to be a new trend for people wanting to escape the recession. New figures for the Office for National Statistics show that the rate of emigration picked up again in the second half of 2008, just when the recession was at its very worst.
Southern Australia, and particularly Adelaide, has been identified as a strong option for people who want get a work permit in Australia, coming seventh in a 2007 poll of the World’s Most Livable Cities and with a AAA credit rating.
Alberta is equally as attractive for people wanting to obtain their Canadian visa and move to Canada, offering a wealth of opportunities for skilled work visa holders.
