A teenager from Trinidad who is living in the UK with her new foster parents, may be deported before she is able to have important surgery.

Kade Romain is being given the chance to have her poorly-formed ears operated on by a leading private hospital in Scotland. The hospital has waived the usual £50,000 cost of the operation.

Romain was raised in a children’s home and has now been fostered by high-profile Scottish couple, Derek and Robina Addison, who are paying for the £10,000 hearing aid implants that will change her life.

However, when the couple brought Kade to Scotland for her treatment, they were mislead about her need for a UK visa. Derek Addison, explained, “I was assured that all the paperwork was in order. I spoke to immigration and they said she didn't need a visa. But we were misled and we now know she needs a medical visa.”

She is now being told by UK immigration officials that she will have to return to Trinidad and apply for the correct type of UK visa, or return and apply for re-entry. However, her foster parents aren’t keen on this option as she has settled in well to her new home. In addition, doctors need at least 18 months to complete her treatment, which is likely to be a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity for the girl.

Mr and Mrs Addison are now appealing to the Home Office. Robina Addison said, "I don't want to argue with the Home Office, I just want them to agree that this kid can get this magnificent chance."
