UK marriage visa scam ring arrested in Bolton

UK immigration has successfully caught six fraudsters who were involved with organising scam weddings to help illegal immigrants obtain UK visas.

Several addresses in Bolton were raided last week and five people were arrested over the UK immigration scam. Another woman was arrested at an address in Liverpool. The six Czech nationals have been accused of assisting unlawful immigration and bigamy.

Officers dealing with the individuals claim anyone involved in such crimes will be dealt with using the full strength of the law. She also pointed out that in a sham marriage where the sponsor is an EU citizen, the third country national will not win the right to live in the UK.

Jo Liddy, the regional director of the North West Immigration Crime Team stated, "we have made it more difficult than ever for people to abuse the immigration system. We will challenge anyone who tries to take part in sham marriages. We will prosecute where appropriate, and will seek to remove foreign national offenders convicted of involvement in marriage scams after they have served their sentences."

These scams involve phony marriages that are carried out purely to help an immigrant gain a UK marriage visa, or to enable them to remain living in the UK.
