UK partially lifts UK visa ban for North India
February 17 2010 by Liam Clifford
The UK Minister for Business, Innovation and Skills, Pat McFadden, says the UK is partially lifting its ban on UK student visas for people from Northern India.
McFadden
explained that the ban will be lifted for some applicants wanting to move to the
UK from 1 March. He said, "The suspension was taken in response to a huge surge
in applications over a very short period of time. I am delighted to be able to
announce today that, from 1 March, this suspension will be lifted for all
students wanting to study higher education courses, whether foundation degrees,
undergraduate or postgraduate.”
Despite this, the temporary suspension
remains in place for some applicants, namely those who want to move to the UK to
study lower level courses.
He added that this suspension will remain
under review and that UK immigration will lift it “as soon as we can,” according
to McFadden.
McFadden also commented that Indian students are “always
welcome” in the UK. He explained that there are currently some 50,000 Indian
students studying in the UK. He continued, “UK universities are always very keen
to get Indian students who are very talented.”
