UK's population will be the biggest in Europe says US group

UK population growth due to UK immigration

A US pressure group has reportedly claimed that the UK’s population will surpass that of Germany in 2050.

Currently the UK’s population stands at around 60 million, with projections for 2029 that the population will rise to 70 million and then in 2050 stand at 77 million people.

According to the group, Population Reference Bureau, Germany’s population will actually fall by 11 million by 2050. This will mean that Germany would no-longer be the most populated country in Europe, a title it has held since its inception 140 years ago. This has been attributed to Germany’s current low birth-rate and low immigration levels, whereas the UK on the other hand has no such problem with birth-rates and have over the past 20-years adopted a more liberal UK immigration policy.

Estimates masquerading as official figures were flying around yesterday that in fact Britain’s rapid increase in size was directly related to UK immigration rules, some stating two thirds of the increase was due to immigration into the UK.

David Cameron will today try and shore up some kind of unity in the coalition party on this issue, as he will continue to insist there be a permanent cap on migration into the UK. However, as previously acknowledged by government research papers and this company, 50% of all immigration into the UK comes from within the EU, which the government currently have no control over and would involve a rewriting of the Treatys of Versailles.

A statement yesterday from Labour and Tory MP’s called it necessary to restrict UK immigration.
