December 24 2009 by Liam Clifford
UK visa changes to be introduced on 1 January.
The UK Border Agency has
announced the details of the changes to the regulations for foreign students,
who are under 18, coming to the UK on exchanges or educational
visits.
The new rules to be brought in on 1 January, allow under-18's
from countries outside the EU to live in the UK as part of an educational visit
for up to six months. They will not require entry clearance providing they are
not from a county that requires UK visas to enter the country.
If a
student is from a country that requires entry clearance, they will have to
provide evidence that:
• They are under 18.
• A school is offering
them a place on an exchange programme or educational visit –
evidence such as
a letter from the school is required.
• They intend to leave the UK within
six months.
• Their care is organised for the duration of their stay.
•
Travel and reception plans are in place.
• The care arrangement comply with
the UK immigration regulations for under 16s if they are under 16 or under 18
and disabled.
• They have consent to travel from a parent or guardian who
remains responsible for their care.
• They are not intending to study in the
UK in an institution accredited under tier 4 of the UK visa points based system.
