People living in the Cayman Islands who want to apply for a UK visa can soon do so without leaving their island.
This is following the news that the UK immigration
department is implementing a new UK visa clinic on the island, which will offer
local services for anyone wishing to visit or move to the UK.
The new
service will be in the form of a bio-metrics clinic, which will help prospective
immigrants file their bio-metric information on Grand Cayman.
Previously,
anyone hoping to apply for a UK visa, a UK work visa or even a UK student visa
had to travel to Jamaica to submit their bio-metric information, which is now
necessary to apply for these UK visas. They also has to make an appointment at
the Visa Application Centre in Kingston.
When it announced the new
clinics, the UK Border Agency stated, ‘The UKBA recognises the logistical
challenges that face their customers in the Caribbean, in regards to the
bio-metric capture part of the UK visa application process.’
The first
monthly bio-metrics clinic is to take place on 27 July 2010.
