Kevin Rudd: Move to Australia for work

The Irish Times has reported that making the move to Australia may be a good idea for the unemployed Irish masses.

Ireland was hit hard in recession with the unemployment rate soaring to 12.5%. The report by the Irish Times says that leaving the country and passing through Australian immigration may be a good option, due to the strong state of the Australian economy.

The Australian economy has shown remarkable resilience compared to other developed countries making it an attractive target for the unemployed ranks of the Irish (among others).  Unemployment rates in Australia remained steady at 5.8% and Australia was the only one of the 33 OECD (Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development) countries that experienced economic growth in the last 12 months and not gone into recession.  Experts say the skills-shortage-filling immigration policy has greatly helped Australia.

In related news, the Australian economy has been highlighted as a key example at a meeting in New York which Prime Minister Kevin Rudd is currently attending.

He said that he will be promoting Australia as a good place to invest, focusing on the fact that it has the lowest debt and deficit levels when compared to other developed countries.

Rudd said:  "We have a good story to tell, given the performance of the rest of the international economy in what has been a very difficult time.  I think another point to emphasise with our friends and partners in the US business community, and the investment community here in New York, is the fact that of the nine remaining AA+ rated banks worldwide, four of those banks are Australian.”
