In a move that is intended to help Vietnamese business people to work in the US and may attract investment, the US immigration department has announced that it will be extending some work permit terms for visitors from Vietnam.

The US embassy in Hanoi has revealed that it has extended the one-entry/three-month visas for non immigrants working in the US, to multiple-entry/twelve-months visas for people working in certain industries or with certain professions.

The embassy has also said that visa renewal application times will be reduced, as well as the costs involved with applying for a US visa.

Those covered by the new longevity rules include aliens with religious occupations and aliens with extraordinary capabilities, such as artists, athletes and dancers. Also covered are non-academic students, information media representatives, intra-company transferees, transit aliens, temporary workers, crewmen and trainees.

The changes will be welcomed by the business community in both Vietnam and the US as the changes will help enable people to work out of either country and will encourage Vietnamese investment into the US and vice versa.
