New visa system in China hailed as a great tool for the applicant and to save the planet.

US immigration officials in Beijing, China, have said that applications for US visas will be totally changed from next month from the paper system to being completely done online.

The new online system will allow applicants to fill out the required forms, including personal information all online with no need to download or print applications. The new system also saves time for the officials whose job it is to transcribe the applications details onto a computer logging program.

The new electronic method has been praised by most of the US visa staff who have been working with it. One of the features of the online application is that it filters questions according to the person’s visa purpose, therefore automatically directing the applicant to the correct visa for there stay, the form also has a language option that the user can toggle, which translates the page into whatever language the user wishes.

Nancy Abella, in charge of US visas from China estimates that this new system “Will save 2 million to 3 million pieces of paper in China per year.” With the number of people travelling to the US on US visas rising every year, last year a total of 486,000 people travelled on US visas from China.
