Wanted: Foreign students in Canada

A record ninety-nine per cent of Indian students in Canada are successfully applying for Canadian work permits after finishing their studies, Express India is reporting.

Canadian University Application Centre managing director Mel Broitman is visiting the country on a recruitment drive with representatives from five Canadian universities to select students to move to Canada.

With a negative population growth rate Broitman is targeting skilled foreign students who will work in Canada in the long-term.

“With the success rate of Indian students becoming Permanent Residents (PR) in Canada recorded at 99 per cent, Canada has a high population of Indian students today. Roughly 80 per cent of them apply for PR after the completion of their studies,” Broitman said.

“Canada is very actively promoting immigration so that it can add to its population. It has a population of 32 million people and there is a need to increase the population. “About 40 per cent of the Indian students studying in these five universities are from Punjab and that speaks volumes of how Punjabis are making inroads into Canadian universities,” added Broitman.

“All Indian students automatically receive a work permit in Canada once they graduate since they are highly respected for speaking good English and also for being talented,” said Justin Kohlman from the University of Victoria.
