The Wookey Witch works in UK
A tourist attraction in southwest England has ended its search for what has to be the wickest opportunity for work in the UK.
Wookey Holes Caves in Wells, Somerset were looking for a wicked witch to cast spells, get up to general hocus-pocus and replace their last witch who retired earlier this year after six years in the job.
The new Wookey Witch is Carole Bohanan, a former estate agent from Shepton Mallet. She will be more professionally known as Carla Calamity.
The job advertisement asked that any would-be witch must be able to cackle and must not be allergic to cats. The response was huge.
Miss Calamity beat off 2,319 hag hopefuls to land the magical role. 613 of the applicants were from overseas, clearly wanting a magical move to the UK. Over 300 were male.
The new witch will now get to entertain the many visitors who come to the historic caves. The position also carries a 50,000 pounds per year salary.
During interviews, all applicants were given sixty seconds to prove to three judges that they were the wickedest witch for the work.
Carla Calamity will begin her new job in the knowledge that Wookey Caves were once haunted by a real witch. She lived in the caves in the Dark Ages causing misery and devastation to the surrounding townsfolk. She was eventually turned to stone by a local monk who threw holy water at her.
Miss Calamity represents a new generation of friendlier, more glamorous witches. Her employers describe her as, “a Witchy fashionista and wears sparkles, stripes and anything glittery mesmerises her and makes her cackle even more.”
