World Cup South African visa applications considered within five days
March 09 2010 by Liam Clifford
The South African Consulate in Jeddah has announced that South African visa applications for the World Cup will be processed within five days of being submitted.
Although people from the UK and many other countries
will not need a South African visa to attend the World Cup, people from many
African, Asian and Middle Eastern countries will need to apply for a visa. The
South African Consul General Mahdi Basadien told travel agents at a meeting in
the Westin hotel in Jeddah that, “requests for visas, accompanied by the World
Cup tickets, will be considered within five working days from the date of
application.”
Many people looking to visit South Africa for the World Cup
will need to show that they have tickets for games as a security measure. South
Africa is aware that the tournament may offer an opportunity for some to
illegally move to South Africa, slipping through the South African immigration
net. Immigration officials will be vigilantly standing by to ensure people are
not trying to get work in South Africa or live in South Africa
permanently.
Despite the step-up in security, South Africa is also
looking forward to welcoming large numbers of tourists in what is traditionally
a low season for tourism.
