Immigration to Scotland

If you’re looking for permanent Scotland visa then your best pathway to success is to obtain an Indefinite Leave to Remain (ILR) visa. The ILR has no expiry date, allowing its holder to stay in Scotland permanently. Those awarded this type of Scottish immigration visa, however, should consider Scotland as their home as spending only short periods of time outside the country could lead to the loss of the visa.

Those with an ILR are free to work in any industry they chose and, within reason, can travel in and out of the country as they wish. They also may be eligible for citizenship, providing that they meet the requirements.

To be eligible for an ILR, candidates must have been a resident in Britain for at least four years living and/or working with the appropriate visa (excluding student visas). Exceptions, however, are made if the immigration to Scotland has taken place via marriage or a De Facto visa, in which case the candidate only needs two years residency.

In addition, the candidate must demonstrate a good level of English and a sufficient understanding of life in Britain to qualify.

Immigration Scotland: Citizenship

There are different criteria to become a Scottish citizen depending on your circumstances, however, to be eligible you usually must be over 18, have lived in the UK for three to five years and have held a IRL for at least 12 months. In addition, you must be have a good level of English, Gaelic or Welsh, have spent no more than 450 days outside the United Kingdom in the last five years and no more than 90 days in the last 12 months, be of sound mind and demonstrate an intention to stay in the UK in the long term.
