If you want to work in the UK it depends on what type of visa you have and what restrictions have been placed on you. It may be the case you are restricted to being self-employed, working for a particular employer or working for a limited amount of hours each week.

To find work the first place to start is your local Job Centre Plus. This is a government employment centre with offices advertising jobs throughout the UK. You can also find jobs advertised in local and national newspapers, on board in local supermarkets and on the Internet.

When starting to work in the UK your employer will give you a written contract setting out your pay, holidays, sick pay and any pension details. Your pay should not be less than the national minimum wage and people normally receive at least four weeks of paid holiday a year.

People working in the UK pay two types of tax. Income tax and National Insurance. National insurance pays for the National Health System (NHS). If you work for an employer both taxes will be directly deducted from your pay with information about how you pay on your payslip.

In the UK, it is the duty of the Home Office and its subsidiary, the UK Border Agency, to manage immigration and grant UK visas.
