US Intern Work and Travel Program
The Intern Work and Travel Program or IWT is an innovative youth exchange scheme exclusively for Irish post-secondary students and recent graduates to enter the US.
The program allows people from Ireland to live and work in the US, for up to 12 months.
The Intern Work and Travel Program gives students the opportunity to experience new cultures, whilst picking up essential life skills and supporting themselves through employment.

Eligibility
To be eligible for the Student Work and Travel Program you must meet the following criteria:
- Be a citizen of Ireland,
- Completed your first year at college/ university or,
- Graduated from college/ university within the previous 12 months,
- Provide proof of sufficient funds before coming to the US to support yourself while you are looking for employment or in between breaks in employment,
- Not be accompanied by dependents.
Benefits
When the Intern Work and Travel visa is granted it is valid for up to 12 months allowing participants to remain in the United States for the entire time.
Unlike other exchange visas, participants in the program are not required to return home in time for the academic school year to begin, and qualified post-secondary students can enter the United States at any time of the year.
Sponsoring organizations do not have to pre-arrange employment for visa applicants once 50 percent of the placements have been filled.
