Applying for an Algerian visa to visit or immigrate to Algeria for any length of time is an essential requirement of citizens of all countries apart from the following:

  • Libyan Arab Jamahiriya
  • Malaysia
  • Maldives
  • Mali
  • Mauritania
  • Morocco
  • Sahrawi Arab Democratic Republic
  • Seychelles
  • Syrian Arab Republic
  • Tunisia
  • Yemen

Nationals from these countries do not require a visa for travel to Algeria and their citizens may travel freely to the country. However, for citizens outside this group of nations, or non-visa nationals (as they're often referred to), Algerian immigration services require visitors to be in possession of a valid Algeria visa in order to gain entry clearance.

Eligibility requirements

In Algeria, immigration through any of the available routes places certain requirements on the candidate. Applicants must be able to fulfil the following criteria.

Candidates must be able to provide a current Passport from their country of residence with a minimum period of validity of 6 months.

In addition to a valid passport, candidates will also need to provide:

  • Two signed and completed application forms.
  • Two passport sized photographs in colour.
  • Evidence of economic/Employment ties to the United Kingdom. This requirement can be satisfied through the provision on a letter of employment from the UK employer or similar evidence of activity in Britain.

Algerian Tourist Visa

Applying for an Algerian travel permit, often referred to as a tourist or visit visa, is intended for those wishing to visit the country purely for the purposes of tourism. An Algerian visa application of this kind will also require one of the following:

  • A certificate of accommodation or Certificat d'hebergement legalisée. This must be certified by the relevant Algerian authorities.
  • A hotel booking confirmation.
  • An invitation from a travel agency in Algeria.
  • In cases where applicants are applying to visit southern Algeria it will also be necessary to provide an itinerary of the proposed excursion including the destinations envisaged during the visit as well as approximate dates.

Algerian Transit Visa

In Algeria, visa applications for Transit visas work in a similar manner to transit visas in many other destination countries. The transit permit is intended as a very short-term entry clearance application designed for those who need to pass through the country en route to another final destination. For applications of this kind candidates will need to provide:

  • A valid travel ticket, which confirms the final destination of the applicant upon departure from Algeria.
  • Documentary evidence of entry clearance for the intended final destination.

Algerian Business Visas

Applying for an Algerian business visa carries the same basic requirements laid out above for those visiting the country as tourists. However, in these circumstances an invitation or letter of sponsorship will be required from an Algerian company.

Processing times

In Algeria, visas can often be processed within five working days. However, like many worldwide visa and work permit applications, processing times are subject to change. The length of time taken to process applications may vary according to the type of permit for Algeria required as well as the nationality of the applicant. The time of year when the application is made may also contribute to a longer processing time due to changing volumes of applications.

Processing Fees

Algerian visa applications may be submitted for either a single entry visa or a multiple entry visa. The type of permit issued, the purpose of the visit and the nationality of the applicant may all impact upon the fee charged for processing the application. At present a single entry business permit when granted to a holder of a valid United Kingdom passport will cost £28.00. The same category of permit when issued as a multiple entry grant will cost £35.00.
