Cuba Visa

Applying for a visa to visit Cuba as a tourist or to conduct business in the country is mandatory for almost all visitors. Cuba issues short-term tourist visas for those entering the country for a holiday and business visit visas for those who wish to conduct business, (excluding employment) in Cuba.

In some case where countries have signed visas exemption treaties with Cuba visa free travel for a limited period may be possible however, in the majority of cases a Cuban visa application will be necessary.

Types of Visa for Cuba

Cuban Tourist Visa

Cuban Tourist visas, or tourist cards as they are commonly known, are issued for an initial period of thirty days; they are valid for a single visit and must be used within 180 days of being granted. In some circumstances, the 30-day duration may be extended by an additional 30 days. Tourist visas are a temporary immigration service designed for those wishing to take a holiday in Cuba. As such, they do not lead to any longer term leave to remain and candidates must depart Cuba within on or before the expiry date of their visa. Tourist visas do not permit their holder to engage in any employment, paid or unpaid whilst in Cuba.

Cuban Business Visa

Cuban business visas are also issued for 30 days and may be extended by an additional 30 days in some circumstances. Although visa exemptions apply to some countries, all business visitors, without exception require a visa to visit Cuba. Like short-term business visit visas in many destinations, a Cuban business visa is intended for short-term business trips to Cuba to engage in activities such as attending meetings or conferences. Visas of this kind do not permit their holder to work in Cuba.

Eligibility

In Cuba, immigration services require a valid passport to be submitted with every visa application and a range of supporting documentation may be required. Tourist visa card applications must include evidence of return or onward travel tickets plus proof of accommodation which can be fulfilled through a hotel booking.

Where applicants are travelling to Cuba to conduct business, details of the business contact in Cuba must be provided and the application must contain letters from both the candidate’s employer in their country of residence and a letter of invitation from the relevant Cuban organisation. These documents should specify who will be responsible for the financial support of the applicant during his or her time in Cuba and must establish the purpose and duration of the trip.

Spouse Immigration and Dependent Immigration

Short-term visas for Cuba are intended as temporary immigration solutions and as such, they do not make provisions for the spouse or dependents of an applicant to enter Cuba with them.  Cuban tourist visa cards and short-term visit visas do not provide the opportunity to apply for long term or permanent settlement in Cuba and require holders to return to their country of residence on or before the visa’s expiry date.  Any dependents who wish to accompany the main applicant to Cuba will need to apply and qualify for a Cuban visa individually.
