Indonesia Visa
Applying for an Indonesian visa is essential for most foreign nationals who wish to visit the country or immigrate to Indonesia for any length of time.
With the exceptions of nationals of Brunei, Chile, Hong Kong, Macau, Malaysia, Morocco, Peru, The Philippines, Singapore, Thailand and Vietnam, all of whom may enter Indonesia for up to 30 days without applying for a visa, all other visitors must make a visa application in order to visit the country.
Indonesian immigration places strict penalties on those who exceed their permitted duration to stay in the country and may impose fines or possible imprisonment in some circumstances.
At Global Visas, our migration consultants and immigration lawyers can offer guidance and services to help you to obtain visas and work permits for an ever-growing list of destinations worldwide.
Types of Visa for Indonesia
In Indonesia, visas for short-term stays can be issued for one of the three categories of tourism, a transit or business:
Indonesian Tourist Visa
Indonesian tourist visas, often referred to as a travel visa, visitor visa or visit visas are valid for a maximum period of three months permitting a stay of no more than 60 days within this period.
As with visit visas in many other destinations, these permits are intended for the purposes of tourism only and do not permit their holders to undertake employment.
Indonesian Transit Visa
Indonesian Transit visas are intended for those who need to visit Indonesia only as part of a continuing journey to another final destination.
These permits are issued for a maximum period of three months and allow the holder to visit Indonesia for up to 14 days.
Indonesian Business Visa
In Indonesia, visa applications for business visas can be granted for either single or multiple entries.
In the case of single entry Indonesian business visas the duration terms are the same as those for travel visas.
Multiple entry holders are permitted the same maximum of sixty days in the country however, this time can be amassed over the permit's validity of one year.
Eligibility Requirements
In Indonesia, immigration on a temporary basis through the routes outlined above requires candidates to fulfil a range of requirements.
In general, these conditions are the same for travel, business, or transit visas; however, the requirements differ in some regards as outlined below:
- All applications for Indonesian visas must be accompanied by a current passport from the country of residence with a minimum of six months validity.
- An application form with passport pictures, and the appropriate fee must also be provided.
- For those applying for a visit visa, proof of sufficient funding for the duration of the visit will need to be provided. A travel itinerary must also be provided with evidence of a hotel reservation or an invitation from the host, i.e. family or friends who the candidate is visiting confirming the purpose and duration of the visit.
- Where candidates are applying for a business visa, applications must include both a letter from the employer, and the counterpart in Indonesia once again stating the purpose and duration of the visit.
Processing Times and Fees
As with immigration services in many destinations, the processing times and fees for Indonesian visas are subject to change and may vary due to factors such as the nationality of the candidate and the type of entry clearance being sought.
In general, most applications can be processed within five to six working days. However, applications for multiple entry business based permits may have to be referred to the Indonesian authorities in which case the processing time may be two months or more.
A Global Visas migration consultant will be able to discuss the current processing times and fees at the time of your application.
