Types of Visa for Romania

Romania issues short-term visas for the purposes of tourism, visiting family and friends, and business (excluding employment).

Romanian Tourist Visa

In Romania, visas for tourism, are referred to as short-stay visas and are generally granted for a period of up to 90 days within a period of six months from the date of issue. In practice, these limits only represent the maximum permitted leave, and do not necessarily reflect the duration granted in each individual case.

Romania Business Visas

Like tourist visas, business visit visas are catered for by the short-stay visa category. Business visas are also issued for a maximum stay of ninety days within a six-month period. As is the case with short-term business visas for many destinations, a Romanian business visa does not grant permission to undertake employment. However, business visas are ideal for applicants who wish to travel to Romania to engage in other business activities such as attending meetings and conferences.

Eligibility

In all cases, applying for a Romanian visa requires a range of documentation to support the application. Applicants must submit a valid passport from their country of origin as well as proof of residence for applicants living outside their country of origin. With a minimum of six months validity beyond the expiry date of the visa. It will also be necessary to provide evidence of medical insurance and the ability of the candidate to support him or herself financially for the duration of the trip.

For tourist visas, applicants must provide evidence of the purpose of their trip through a letter from a travel agent or a hotel booking in Romania. For business visa applicants, similar evidence will be required however, two letters will be necessary, one from the Romanian company concerned and the other from the applicant's employer in his country of residence. The letters must detail the duration and purpose of the trip and should establish who will be funding the applicant's expenses during their stay in Romania. For visitors to family or friends a letter from the host in Romania will be required.

Nationals of some countries will need to provide an officially notarized invitation. A Global Visas consultant will be able to advise you of the exact requirements for your application.

Spouse Immigration and Dependent Immigration

Short-term Romanian visas for tourism and business are non-extendable temporary visa services. Visa holders may not work in Romania and are obliged to return to their country of residence when their visa status expires. Short stay visas do not make specific provisions for the spouse and or any other dependents of an applicant to join them in the country, and all such dependents must apply for a Romanian visa individually.
